Valldemossa
Nestled in the Tramuntana mountains, just 20 kilometres from Palma, lies Valldemossa — one of Mallorca’s most beautiful villages. Narrow cobblestone lanes wind between honey-coloured stone houses adorned with flower pots and the gentle scent of jasmine and citrus blossoms. The village rose to fame through the Charterhouse of Valldemossa, a former 14th-century monastery where Frédéric Chopin and George Sand spent the winter of 1838–39. Here Chopin composed his legendary Préludes, while Sand wrote her book “A Winter in Mallorca.” To this day the village celebrates the Chopin Festival each summer within the ancient monastery walls. Valldemossa is also the home of Catalina Thomàs, the patron saint of Mallorca, whose feast day in July is marked by processions and traditional dances. In the village cafés you will find the famous Coca de Patata — a sweet potato pastry that is an absolute must-try.
